(The exact content requirements vary according to what we teach)
Concept / Topic To Teach:
Wiki collaboration
Flickr illustration
Embedding of photo or video
Photo licensing
Webliography
(content specific concepts, depending on our subject matter, such as summarizing results of a science lab, describing aspects of Roman urban infrastructure or English literature)
General Goal(s):
Introducing Students to work with Wikispaces, Flickr and other interactive media tools.
Specific Objectives:
Students will collaborate on and work at creating a wiki.
Students will find images from the web they are permitted to use (creative commons license)
Students will embed content into a wiki.
Students will cite web sources properly. Students will post (science lab conclusions and vocabulary, aspects of Roman urban infrastructure, or Emily Dickinson's poems) to a class wiki, using type written responses and pictorial illustrations.
Required Materials:
Computers with internet access (science lab data)
(science vocabulary notebook) Student wiki page example
Step-By-Step Procedures:
Day 1:
A. Students are introduced to their workspace in the wikispace wiki the teacher has already set up for the class.
Throughout the project, they can access the following screencasts / tutorials in order to learn how to use wikispaces:
B. Students are also introduced to the project requirements: > In your small group, you will create a resource page about (a science lab, aspects of Roman urban infrastructure, Emily Dickinson's poems )
one or more articles, diagrams or charts, divided into subtopics
3-5 illustrations of ( laboratory topic, the urban structure your are researching, Dickinson poems). You may either embed a slideshow, or just post the pictures as a gallery. Be sure to use public domain or creative commons licensed images only.
external links to websites, blogs and/or videos, so the reader can 'drill down' for more information regarding your main topic
a reference / vocabulary section defining or explaining at least five terms you use in your post (for science you should select five vocab words from the lab and give an illustration with your definition or explanation.)
